All The Wrong Reasons
Chapter 01

Chapter 1

Michelle Leddon was on top the world! She had gone from small-town musician to BIG time star in a matter of literally months. She was finding it very hard to stay grounded. Not a conventional Pop Princess, Michelles music varied from R&B to Rock. She was discovered six months ago singing at a bar in Jamestown by a local talent spotter and her life hadnt been the same since. Although, not blonde like many of her music peers she was still very attractive. She was tall with medium length, sleek, chestnut brown hair that set off her big, almond brown eyes, and her creamy skin was dusted with freckles. Michelle was very talented, everyone had always said so and not in an egotistical way she knew it too. She had always found it easy to write songs, she didnt really have to try very hard. She found inspiration for new songs from the things that surrounded her and always had melodies rattling around in her head. This talent for writing songs was accompanied by a strong, versatile voice. Since she signed her record deal, Michelles life had been a whirlwind of promotion, travelling, TV and radio. She had only released one song and had become huge just by the hype that surrounded her. Although she was very grateful and happy, one thing plagued Michelles mind: was she being promoted on her looks? One of the clauses on her contract was that she was not allowed to have a relationship AT ALL for at least five years. When she questioned why, she was told that it was a well-known fact that artists lost their appeal when the public thought they were inaccessible. Michelle didnt want to seem accessible she just wanted to write and perform her music. Since she had signed the contact she had far more time spent on her image than her talent and songs. She had done countless photo shoots and TV interviews looking extremely glamorous and sexy and barely any recording and live performances. In the interviews she was asked more about her personal life than she was about her music. Being famous was Michelles biggest dream come true, but she didnt want to be famous for all the wrong reasons. Deciding she was being paranoid, Michelle pushed these thoughts to the back of her mind and concentrated on doing her job. After all most people would kill to be in her position.

"MICHELLE, INTO MAKE UP-NOW!" Bellowed her manager John Latchford. He was a large, balding man with a rather large potbelly. He had a red face and bulging eyes. He was very strict and demanding, but Michelle knew he had her success in mind.

"OK, OK Im coming I was just warming up, I wanna make sure my performance is perfect tonight."

"Never mind that your make up hasnt been done yet, you dont want to turn up to the MTV awards looking plain do you?" Asked John.

Michelle furrowed her brow in concern. Did it matter what she looked like, as long as she put on a good performance? She thought. But she didnt want cause trouble in case people thought she was being difficult, so sighing softly she stood up and took her place in that all to familiar make up chair.

Nick Carter should have been the happiest guy on earth; he had money, talent, fame, good looks and fans all to an excessive degree. He was part of the biggest pop act in the world and had won countless awards. But something was missing. He had an empty space inside which he couldnt seem to fill. He looked over at Brian who sat on the other side of their large dressing room; Leighanne was sitting on his lap whispering in to his ear, a big grin covered his angular face. He turned away deciding they were too sick making and turned on the TV instead. He flicked from channel to channel stopping briefly on each to see if anything interesting was on. He stopped on one channel to see the face of Mandy Williford smiling back at him. He felt a pang of loneliness kick him in the pit of his stomach, this time last year he had been in a stable relationship and now he was all-alone. Although he did not want Mandy back, he did want a girlfriend he realised. Not just a one-night stand or an easy lay as he had been having, but a proper girlfriend. Someone he could call when he was lonely, someone to embrace him when he was feeling down. Someone he could spoil and above all someone he could love and would love him back. Not love his cars, houses, credit cards, status or connections in the industry but him as a person, his personality, his quirks, his sense of humour. This is what he needed to make him feel complete and fulfilled, he decided. But it wasnt that easy he wasnt just going to trip upon the perfect girl.

"Yo earth to Nick, come in Nick are you reading me?"

Nick looked up to see AJs laughing face staring back at him.

"Yeah, sorry I was jus thinking" Nick mumbled.

"Wow, did it hurt?"

"Oh ha ha, look did you want something or are you jus here to annoy me?" Nick loved AJ, but he just wasnt in the mood for joking around.

"Sor-ry dude, just thought I should tell you, rehearsal starts in five" AJ said, slightly hurt.

"Thanks AJ; sorry for snapping jus feeling a bit tired." Nick lied

It was the MTV awards tonight and the Backstreet Boys were performing and were nominated. Great, Nick thought, he had to go without a date and put up with a night of false smiles, polite clapping, divas and the probability of running into and having to make awkward conversation with his, now famous, ex-girlfriend. No, he was not looking forward to this night at all.
